TOPIC Indentified Career Cluster: Biology/Life Sciences Intended Career Goal: Wildlife Biologist Starting Point: University
QUICK QUESTIONS IN YOUR PLAN:
Give specifics (such as name of postsecondary institution, apprenticeship program, specific workplace): Cambridge University for Postsecondary Education.
What steps do you have to take just to get to the starting point? Achieve a 100% average in grade 12 for a scholarship. Complete 1000 community service hours for a grant.
What are the immediate Next Steps to progress from the starting point? Work hard in university to get a master’s degree or Ph.D. in biology, apply for a position as a wildlife biologist.
Length of education/training program/apprenticeship: Four years for a bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, and then two years for a master’s degree.
Resources required to support the implementation of your plan (such as tuition costs, living expenses if moving away from home, union dues, travel expenses to work or class, etc.) Tuition costs mostly covered by a scholarship, I’d be living with one of my relatives/family, and travel expenses would be paid with the money from a part-time job (wither present or previous savings)
What are the potential barriers/challenges and what are the potential solutions? Not doing well in high school would mean I had to pay my tuition for university. I could take on another job or use money I’ve saved up. I could also re-do the courses if I wanted to improve my mark. I might not be able to get in to the university I wanted to. If this happens I could choose another university or college, perhaps something more local such as U of T. If I find that the career path I’ve chosen isn’t the right one for me, I could go back to school to try something else, or consider another job with the education I already have.
What is the projected outcome of taking this particular path? How will you know you have succeeded? The projected outcome of taking this particular path includes: -A job as a wildlife biologist -A house to live in -A bright green Chevrolet spark (car) -Financial stability -Possibly married -Overall Happiness!!!
MAKING CONNECTIONS
How does this plan address my learning style and work habits? This career would give me the chance to apply my already developed skills, and help me to further develop my weaker areas. As I am a visual learner, I would be able to use this in observing and studying wildlife, and then apply my observations and research in the lab. This also involves hands-on work, which can be developed throughout my career. My work habits, such as persistence and good organization, would be improved, and the work habits that I don’t possess would grow and improve so I could use them in many situations. This job would be a great opportunity to develop all aspects of my personality, and that is why I want to pursue it.
How does this plan reflect my personal profile in terms of my interests, strengths, intelligences, values, and accomplishments? This plan reflects my personal profile because it implements all parts of my interests and strengths. I will use my interests to follow a career path I like, and my strengths will help me to be successful. My intelligences will assist me in school and in the field, as I am good at math and science. My values and accomplishments are also part of my plan, as my values will lead me to success, or what I want in life, and my accomplishments will show me how far I’ve come and where else I want to go.
How does this plan reflect on my personal profile in relation to my interpersonal relationships, family background, and affiliations? My plan applies my interpersonal relationships, family background, and affiliations. I want to strengthen my support group of friends all throughout my journey, knowing that I will lose some, and make new ones. I want to move to England and live there for a portion of my life, learning more about my family there and myself, almost going there to “find myself”. I also want to get married, and this will happen eventually if I reach out to people in my life and build a better relationship. This is my pathway, but I can’t follow it without the people in my life, and the people to come.
